Our SHINE Values
At Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas, SHINE is more than a motto it's how we live our mission every day. Through Safety & Well-Being, Honor & Accountability, Individuality & Belonging, New Opportunities & Empowerment, and Engagement & Impacting Communities, we empower every young person to Be Bold. Be You. SHINE!

Organization History
In 1988, Dr. Jim DiNucci recognized the urgent need for a Boys & Girls Club to serve children and teens in Nacogdoches, Texas. By the summer of 1990, the first Club was operating with just 30 members.

Today, the Nacogdoches Club serves more than 1,000 members annually, with an average daily attendance of more than 200 youth.

What began in Nacogdoches has grown into a regional movement. Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas now serves seven rural counties: Nacogdoches, Angelina, San Augustine, Hardin, Polk, Houston, and Tyler. Through six traditional Clubhouses, nine school-based sites, a mobile Club, and a community impact program, the organization serves young people in Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Diboll, Corrigan, Woodville, Crockett, San Augustine, and Livingston.
Collectively, Boys & Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas serves more than 5,000 children and teens each year and operates with an annual organizational budget of approximately $4.1 million.

From 30 members in one community to thousands of young people across Deep East Texas, our commitment remains the same: helping every child feel safe, supported, empowered, and prepared to SHINE.
Making A Difference
We are committed to serving families in neighborhoods that need us the most.
Many do not have the resources or role models to help them achieve their full potential. We believe a child’s zip code should not determine their chances for success, which is why we are committed to keeping our membership fees affordable for every family.
